Ventilation

Industrial Ventilation & Air Circulation

Warehouses, factories, workshops, hangars and other large buildings can develop stagnant zones, uneven temperatures and areas where incoming fresh or conditioned air does not reach the occupied space effectively. A complete airflow strategy needs to consider both ventilation — bringing air into and out of the building — and circulation — moving and distributing that air throughout the space.

MegaFan systems can combine fresh-air supply, general stale-air extraction and large-volume internal air circulation. HVLS fans help move and mix air across broad occupied areas, reducing stagnant pockets and distributing incoming fresh or conditioned air more evenly, while AirWall can be configured to introduce outside air or extract general hot and stale internal air.

The final system should be designed around the building layout, occupancy, heat sources, doors, existing ventilation, working zones and any processes taking place inside. Where harmful dust, fumes, vapours, gases or other contaminants are produced, general air circulation must not be used as a replacement for required local exhaust ventilation, filtration or other specialist contaminant-control systems.

How HVLS Fans Support Ventilation
Move Fresh Or Conditioned Air Beyond The Supply Point

Large buildings can contain substantial volumes of air but still suffer from poor distribution. Incoming fresh or conditioned air can remain concentrated near doors, vents or supply points, short-circuit towards extraction or fail to reach important occupied areas.

Fresh Air Distribution

Distribute Incoming Fresh Air

HVLS circulation can help mix supplied or naturally entering fresh air with the wider building volume instead of leaving it concentrated close to doors, vents or supply points.

Wide-Area Circulation

Reduce Stagnant Zones

Broad air movement can help reduce still pockets behind equipment, between working areas and across large open floor spaces where air movement would otherwise be limited.

Temperature Distribution

Improve Temperature Mixing

Air movement can help mix warmer and cooler zones, supporting more consistent conditions where ventilation, heating or air-conditioning systems are already operating.

Humidity Support

Support Humidity Management

Circulation can help distribute drier, conditioned or dehumidified air across surfaces and occupied areas. Moisture removal itself still requires ventilation, extraction, dehumidification or process control.

Wide-Area Air Movement

Reduce Reliance On Multiple Floor Fans

Large overhead fans can provide broad air movement across suitable occupied areas, reducing the need to rely solely on multiple portable units, trailing leads and narrow localised airflow streams.

Zoned Control

Coordinate Different Building Zones

Variable-speed and compatible multi-fan controls allow different areas to operate around occupancy, temperature, working schedules and the airflow requirements of each zone.

Air circulation supports ventilation — it does not replace it. HVLS fans move and distribute air already within the building. Fresh-air supply, stale-air extraction, filtration and any required local or process extraction must still be designed for the building and the activities taking place inside it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing the right ventilation system starts with understanding your building. Warehouses, workshops, production facilities and commercial spaces can have different requirements for fresh-air supply, stale-air extraction and the movement of air through occupied areas.

Our ventilation FAQs cover fan selection, installation, airflow direction, control options and integration with existing building systems. Explore the difference between circulating air and exchanging it with fresh outside air, and discover how MegaFan ventilation solutions can be planned around your building’s layout and day-to-day operations.

Can an HVLS fan improve ventilation on its own?

An HVLS fan improves air movement and distribution, but a recirculation fan does not introduce fresh outside air or remove stale indoor air by itself. A poorly ventilated building still needs suitable natural ventilation, mechanical supply, extraction or another engineered ventilation solution.

Ventilation exchanges indoor air with fresh or purified air. Air circulation moves and mixes the air already inside the space. MegaFan HVLS fans are primarily circulation products, while AirWall can be configured for fresh-air supply or stale-air extraction.

HVLS fans can distribute incoming fresh or conditioned air across a wider occupied area, reduce stagnant pockets, mix temperature layers and help create more consistent conditions between different zones.

AirWall can be configured as a supply or extraction fan. It can move up to 47,706 cubic metres of air per hour and can work alongside compatible HVLS fans and controls as part of a designed ventilation system.

Air movement can reduce stagnant hot zones and improve the distribution of fresh, conditioned or dehumidified air. Humidity removal still requires ventilation, extraction, dehumidification or process control.

Better circulation can move air across cold surfaces, reduce stagnant damp zones and support evaporation. It does not remove moisture from the building or replace repairs, insulation, ventilation or dehumidification.

Compatible MegaFan controls can provide variable speed, schedules, temperature and humidity sensor options, multi-fan zoning and BMS or Modbus integration. Final compatibility must be confirmed during specification.
