HVLS fans in the finished-product store at the Heineken brewery

Dry labels and 20% lower humidity in a brewery store

At the Heineken brewery that produces Krušovice beer, bottles leave the production line at 12°C and go straight into a 2,280 m² store that reaches 30°C in summer, with humidity above 80%. Condensation was damaging the labels. Four HVLS fans under automatic control cut the humidity by 20%, and the labels now stay dry.

01The challenge

Bottles come off the line at 12°C and arrive in a store where the summer air is 30°C and the humidity is above 80%. Water condenses on the cold glass, the labels get wet and come off, and the product loses quality. Heineken needed to stop the condensation in its finished-product store.

02The solution

Four HVLS fans were installed to cover the store. Sensors measure the room's temperature and humidity, and the building management system (BMS) runs the fans and the air changes automatically.

How the fans keep the store dry

Cross-section through the store. Strands show the air; their colour shows humidity, from misty lilac (humid) to clear teal (drier). Watch the condensation on the bottles as the fans start.

The problem: cold bottles in warm, humid air

When 12°C bottles meet 30°C air with humidity above 80%, moisture condenses on the glass. The wet labels peel off and the product no longer looks right.

The fix: constant air movement, controlled automatically

The HVLS fans keep air moving over the stored pallets, and the BMS uses temperature and humidity sensors to run the fans and the air changes only as needed.

03Why it works

  • Air movement: keeps humid air from settling around the stored product.
  • Automatic: sensors and the BMS run the system without staff involvement.
  • Protects quality: labels stay dry and in place.
  • Few fans: four HVLS fans cover the whole 2,280 m² store.
